I just purchased a 70-200 f2.8 IS USM version 1 lens in prestine condition for $1100 - guy wanted $1500. I can vouch for how sharp the version 1 lens is and how well it performs. I don't think I'd spend another grand for the version 2. Use that for another lens. --Canon 50d gripped, 70-200 f2.8L IS USM, 50mm f1.8, 18-55 f3.5-5.6, 430ex II.
I came to two obvious choices RF 70-200 L IS f/2.8 and EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS III. The big vote for EF version if the inside zooming mechanism, which I love on f/4. Plus I could use it on 6DII with EF extender I have. I know RF is newer, should be better AF, IQ and so on, but there is 1200 USD price gap where I live between these two.
Dedicated to EOS cameras, the Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens is a high-performance telephoto zoom lens equipped with an Image Stabilizer. β€’ β€œIS” stands for Image Stabilizer. β€’ β€œUSM” stands for Ultrasonic Motor. Features 1. The Image Stabilizer gives the equivalent effect of a shutter speed four stops faster*. 2. These are used to block strong light sources, such as the sun, from the lens to prevent glare and lens flare. Lens hood is reversible. Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM. Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS. The lens hood can screw onto the lens in reverse so that you can keep it on your camera at all times, ready to use.
There was little implied IQ improvement by Canon using the older super telephotos or zooms with the version III TCs. Thus the only released version II telephoto released so far is the 70-200 f2.8 IS II, and thats often what the version II Vs III TCs were tested with.
The EF 70-200 f2.8 IS II was a legendary lens when I bought my first camera (Rebel 5Ti). Great IQ, metal build, all internal zoom, etc. People claim to have dropped it and cracked the tile floor without affecting its performance. It was also on sale regularly for $1899. The lens was a work horse. I was thinking about to buy canon 70-200 f2.8 ii + 1.4x iii canon with canon 80d (I won the body now). It will give around 450mm (if I’m right) which is fine for me. Also sometime I can use portrait with f2.8. This is my hobby and I don’t earn any money from photography. I loved to take birds pictures and portraits sometime. Any suggestions mco4.
